It’s One of Us by J. T. Ellison
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of It’s One of Us in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Trigger warning: infertility and miscarriage.
The Gist
It’s One of Us by J.T. Ellison is a disappointing thriller that fails to deliver on its promises of suspense and intrigue.
The Details
One of the main issues I have with this story is that it is not going anywhere. I can’t even say that the plot is predictable, because there barely is a plot.
Furthermore, most of the characters in It’s One of Us are just plain boring and annoying. It’s the same complaint I had with another book recently. The constant back and forth with a character’s internal conflict. I guess it’s supposed to create anticipation or interest, but I was just plain annoyed.
The writing style in It’s One of Us is not bad. There wasn’t really anything wrong with the actual writing, just how it was used that wasn’t my cup of tea.
I’m not sure what else to say. I felt like any sort of drama, tension, anticipation that was created felt forced. I’m still sitting here wondering where this story was supposed to go.
The Verdict
Overall, It’s One of Us is a forgettable thriller that fails to leave a lasting impression. I wouldn’t recommend it.
