    Lustiges Taschenbuch History 06

Lustiges Taschenbuch History 06: Ereignisse der Moderne by Walt Disney Company My rating: 4 of 5 stars This was the last comic book in my emergency stash and the last one in this series. I would have wished for a few more Goofy history stories without Mickey, like in the first and second installments, but I still enjoyed it very much and gave me a chance to recuperate from the more serious stories I have been reading lately. Lustiges Taschenbuch Spezial Nr. 63

Lustiges Taschenbuch Spezial Nr. 63: Mode, Models & Moneten by Walt Disney Company My rating: 4 of 5 stars A collection of very funny stories. I would have given it 5 stars, especially because of the never before published stories in German, but some of them had such busy frames. I had a difficult time focusing without feeling slightly nauseous. View all my reviews

    Manga Classics: Romeo and Juliet

Manga Classics: Romeo and Juliet by Crystal S. Chan My rating: 3 of 5 stars I was auto-approved by the publisher Udon Entertainment through NetGalley to review this title. Not my favourite Shakespeare play, but one I read a few times within the last decade, I find it to be somewhat overly dramatic and not very romantic. Regardless, I appreciated the effort that was put into creating a comic out of this play. The artwork combined various elements that helped to emphasize the characters personalities. It was harsh and beautiful; at times too busy, other times perfectly fitting the character, with a few frames that were exaggerated in their presentation of sceneries…

    Manga Classics: Great Expectations

Manga Classics: Great Expectations by Stacy King My rating: 5 of 5 stars I was auto-approved by the publisher Udon Entertainment through NetGalley to review this title.I always found Charles Dickens Great Expectations rather spooky and dark, but it is one of my favourite classic stories. The comic was able to keep the eerie feeling I always get when reading this story and it also portrays the harshness of young Pip’s childhood.Overall, it’s a great addition to the Manga Classics series and I would recommend it. Manga Classics: Sense and Sensibility

Manga Classics: Sense and Sensibility by Stacy King My rating: 3 of 5 stars I was auto-approved by the publisher Udon Entertainment through NetGalley to review this title.I have only read the original Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen once, but have watched television productions throughout the years.I’m still not sure about this one. I found the artwork pretty, but also comical. I understand that Austen’s works possess a certain amount of comical commentary of social customs; however, with respect to the artwork it felt like it was distracting the reader from the actual story.Overall, I might be slightly biased and have extremely high expectations when it comes to Austen’s…

Manga Classics: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Manga Classics: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Crystal Chan My rating: 4 of 5 stars I was auto-approved by the publisher Udon Entertainment through NetGalley to review this title. The story of Huck is a slow one and requires at times a lot of patience, but it’s worth the effort. Keeping that in mind, the comic also unfolds extremely slowly and requires the reader’s attention and patience. The artwork is very vivid and helps tell the story remarkably well.Overall, it’s a good story and a good comic and when read in small chunks, maybe one chapter at a time, it can be a rewarding read. Lustiges Taschenbuch #441 by Walt Disney Company

Der einsame Wächter by Walt Disney Company My rating: 3 of 5 stars I found my emergency stash of Donald Duck comics, which came in handy yesterday as I needed to relax and unwind. The title and cover art is a bit misleading, since only one story is about Phantomias. There was another story that had some very peculiar art work, which looked like it was magnified a few times and made me slightly nauseous to look at. Overall, not a bad collection, just not what I had expected. View all my reviews

Manga Classics: Jane Eyre by Stacy King

Manga Classics: Jane Eyre by Stacy King My rating: 5 of 5 stars I was auto-approved by the publisher Udon Entertainment through NetGalley to review this title. Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre holds a special place in my heart and on my permanent bookshelf and I’m glad Manga Classics decided to turn it into a comic. The artwork beautifully captures the atmosphere of the story and emphasizes the remoteness and isolation of the characters. Overall, I enjoyed this comic tremendously and would recommend it to manga and classic literature enthusiasts. View all my reviews
