    Last of Her Name

Last of Her Name by Jessica Khoury My rating: 5 of 5 stars I had this book from the library probably almost two months before I had a chance to read it (I had the option of renewing it many times; the overdue fines would have been outrageous). I was not emotionally prepared for the story. Ever since the weather turned a bit warmer, I have been in a mood to read stories similar to Kaufmann and Spooner’s series Starbound, but had trouble finding stories with good world building and worthwhile plots and characters. Demon Lust and Fairy Dust by Kay BrandtMy rating: 5 of 5 stars I was cleaning out my Kindle to free up some memory, because it stopped connecting to the wifi when I came across this title. I can’t remember how or why or where I purchased it, but I stopped about 20% into the book. Curious, I gave it another try and was pleasantly surprised by the retellings of the fairytales. The Mermaid

The Mermaid by Christina Henry My rating: 1 of 5 stars I have loved Disney’s The Little Mermaid ever since I was a young girl. I loved Henry’s Lost Boys, the first book of hers I have read and I couldn’t wait for her latest one that I thought would take a similar dark and eerie perspective on a classic fairy tale. Little did I know that The Mermaid was less horror and more romance than I had hoped and sadly left me wanting for so much more. The characters were too far removed to make any connections with as a reader. As complex as they at first appeared, their development…

The Steep and Thorny Way by Cat Winters

The Steep & Thorny Way by Cat WintersMy rating: 5 of 5 stars I was supposed to read this title through NetGalley a few months ago, unfortunately the e-file did not work properly, so I had to wait until it was available from the library. It was worth the wait. The characters were well created with multidimensional facets that showed the many sides of a person with respect to situational circumstances. It was refreshing to read a story set in the 1920’s from the point of view of a young woman with a black father and a white mother. The secondary characters are equally complex and help address a variety of…
