Road Out of Winter by Alison Stine My rating: 5 of 5 stars Thank you to the publisher, MIRA, for providing me with an ARC of Road Out of Winter in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist Truth be told, I’m struggling to write this review, and not only because since the weekend, I have found myself dealing with writer’s block. But also, because I want to give this book the review it deserves. I’m afraid anything I’ll mention here would give away some detail of the story that is so profound in its overall message. So, as my husband suggested I’m going to…

Mayan Blood
Mayan Blood by Theresa DaLayne I was given this ARC by NetGalley in return for an honest review. The file I have received for my Kindle is unfortunately difficult to read. After page breaks the sentences from the previous page and current page are mixed up, chopped up and in disarray. I have to skip paragraphs and points in the story get lost. Also, spaces between words are missing or placed randomly within words. Sadly, this takes away from the reading experience and makes it impossible to focus on the story, which requires the reader’s full attention.

Earthbound Bones
Earthbound Bones by ReGina Welling My rating: 3 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and Willow Hill Books for providing me with an ARC of Earthbound Bones in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I already had this entire review mapped out when I decided to double check a fact before giving my two-cents’ worth. It turns out that this new series by the author is a spin-off her previous series called Psychic Seasons. To most readers, who are familiar with Welling’s work this isn’t really news, but I think it’s important to point out to anyone interested in this new series Earthbound, familiarity…

Book Love
Book Love by Debbie Tung My rating: 5 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARC of Book Love in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist The time stamp on my NetGalley profile says I downloaded this book in November of 2018 and schoolwork promptly buried me in 6 feet of assignments and projects. I had to put all recreational activities on hold while I dealt with a rather nasty professor, who demanded his students always be at least one week ahead with their course work. Sure, why not! Anyway, I was really excited to read…

Stormy Cove
Stormy Cove by Bernadette Calonego My rating: 1 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and Amazon Crossing for providing me with an ARC of Stormy Cove in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I’m slowly, but surely making my way through all the approved ARCs that have been sitting in my to-read shelf on NetGalley for longer than I’m willing to admit. Up next on my list was Stormy Cove, a mystery. I mean, what’s not to like for someone like me? We’ve got a fishing town near the Atlantic cost serving as the background. We’ve got moody weather. We’ve got an atmosphere that…

Lies Lies Lies
Lies Lies Lies by Adele Parks My rating: 3 of 5 stars Thank you to the publisher, Harlequin Trade Publishing, for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I really like mystery and thriller stories. Give me something that gives me the spooks and I’m all yours. However, recently I have noticed a change, or rather shift, in genre categorizations. A few times now I started reading a thriller/mystery novel with the appropriate gusto only to find out that the book should have been labelled a psychological or domestic drama. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not…

All the Stars Left Behind
All the Stars Left Behind by Ashley Graham My rating: 2 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and Entangled for providing me with an ARC of All the Stars left Behind in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I was on a sci-fi binge when I came across this book. I tried to find as many books that had to do with space travel, strong female characters, exciting adventures and the word “stars” in the title. A book with a heroine, who is a little different, set in a place that in mainstream North American young adult books usually doesn’t get much attention certainly…

The Spaceship Next Door
The Spaceship Next Door by Gene Doucette My rating: 2 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and John Joseph Adams/Mariner Books for providing me with an ARC of The Spaceship Next Door in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I was in a really good space, reading-wise when I started this book. On a book high, if you want to call it that. I was pumped by having just finished a string of really good stories and I was eager to continue digging my nose into books and getting lost in stories that made it feel good to curl up with a book and…

Lore
Lore by Alexandra Bracken My rating: 4 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and Disney-Hyperion for providing me with an excerpt from the ARC of Lore in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I have been meaning to read one of Alexandra Bracken’s books ever since I found out how creepy The Darkest Minds is supposed to be. My little Wednesday Addams-like heart calms at any creepy, mysterious and/or murderous story. It relaxes me. I know, I’m weird. I even bought the hardcover edition of Passenger, fully intending on reading that asap. But alas, it’s been on my bookshelf since 2016, looking very pretty…

Fangs
Fangs by Sarah Andersen My rating: 5 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARC of Fangs in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I hear about Anderson’s new comic story from her Instagram account. She posted weekly – I think – snippets of the whole story until it was complete on her website. I meant to keep track of them, but lost track of time. So, when I saw the entire story was available for request on NetGalley, I jumped at the chance. I enjoyed all of Anderson’s previous work and was curious what she…
