    Shine Your Icy Crown

Shine your Icy Crown by Amanda Lovelace My rating: 3 of 5 stars Thank you to the publisher, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of Shine Your Icy Crown in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I loved Lovelace’s first poetry series, Women Are Some Kind Of Magic and was excited for Shine Your Icy Crown of her newest series, You Are Your Own Fairy Tale. In fact, I was so excited that I didn’t even notice I had requested the audio version on NetGalley. I’m not the greatest admirer of audiobooks, so I had to find a printed…

    The Last Grand Duchess

The Last Grand Duchess by Bryn Turnbull My rating: 2 of 5 stars Thank you to the publisher, MIRA, for providing me with an ARC of The Last Grand Duchess in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I have to confess I started The Last Grand Duchess with apprehension. After having read Turnbull’s other novel, The Woman Before Wallis, I also had a certain amount of bias. I struggled through the first and worried that I would do so through The Last Grand Duchess. Well, my hunch proved correct. It’s unfortunate, because the prospect of reading a story about a rather lesser known Romanov…

    Living with Mochi

Living With Mochi by Gemma Gene My rating: 5 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARC of Living with Mochi in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I wanted to make my way through the ever-growing to-read list I have waiting for me on NetGalley on a regular basis…so much for that, since I’m about 9 books behind my reading goal and it is only March. Lol Anyway, as I was scrolling through the list, I came across Living with Mochi and thought this might be cute. I have been in a funky mood for…

    Fangs

Fangs by Sarah Andersen My rating: 5 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARC of Fangs in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I hear about Anderson’s new comic story from her Instagram account. She posted weekly – I think – snippets of the whole story until it was complete on her website. I meant to keep track of them, but lost track of time. So, when I saw the entire story was available for request on NetGalley, I jumped at the chance. I enjoyed all of Anderson’s previous work and was curious what she…

    The First 100 Kisses

The First 100 Kisses by Danielle Bannister My rating: 5 of 5 stars I received this ARC from Red Coat Publishing and the authors in exchange for an honest review. I had been a bit behind in my reading and schoolwork and made a little schedule that would allow me to read and do homework yesterday to give me the illusion to at least feel a tiny bit accomplished and less stressed out. I had it all planned out: go to the coffee shop, get myself a cappuccino, read for an hour, go home, have lunch and then start on my homework. It was a good plan, which I intended…

    Demon Lust and Fairy Dust

Demon Lust and Fairy Dust by Kay BrandtMy rating: 5 of 5 stars I was cleaning out my Kindle to free up some memory, because it stopped connecting to the wifi when I came across this title. I can’t remember how or why or where I purchased it, but I stopped about 20% into the book. Curious, I gave it another try and was pleasantly surprised by the retellings of the fairytales. They include scenes with sexual content, explicit language and female protagonists, who take charge of their lives. I appreciated the focus on female empowerment that shines through in these retellings and the understanding of human psychology, especially with…

    Doppelganger

Doppelganger by Danielle Bannister My rating: 4 of 5 stars I received this ARC from Red Coat Publishing and the authors in exchange for an honest review. A story about a woman in her early forties, trying to find herself; this was really cute and refreshing. I am not quite in my forties yet, but I appreciated and welcomed a story that centred around a character that wasn’t fresh out of high school or college and wasn’t some super special snowflake that figures out her true path after three chapters. If I had had the time, I would have read the entire book in one sitting. The main character was…

    The Dating Challenge

The Dating Challenge by B. N. Hale My rating: 3 of 5 stars I received this ARC from Red Coat Publishing and the authors in exchange for an honest review.I was looking for a light read this month, since this time of year can be especially busy and stressful. The Dating Challenge provided just the right amount of distraction to allow me a few hours of retreat from reality. There were just a few points I wished had provided more depth, although, I suppose that’s what made this read a light one.The characters had great potential and really captured my attention at the beginning, but by the time I reached…

    Yesternight by Cat Winters

Yesternight by Cat WintersMy rating: 5 of 5 stars I missed the publication of Winters’ latest book and did not purchase it until the Valentine’s Day weekend, after my husband insisted on getting it for me as quickly as possible. Just like with all of Winters’ book, I could have read it in one sitting.I truly enjoy Winters’ decision to write each book in a different time period and this story, set in the 1920’s was just as engaging as all of her previous stories. The paranormal aspect had me turning page after page as the story unfolded. The main character was a well crafted multidimensional young woman, stuck between the…

    The Uninvited by Cat Winters

The Uninvited by Cat WintersMy rating: 5 of 5 stars This may sound a bit forward and weird, but this author’s stories I could just swallow whole, because I can’t get enough of her wonderful story telling and read fast enough to discovery another gem that she created. The main character was such a mysterious reading pleasure to get to know. She was easy to identify with, partly because I saw a little bit of myself in her, but mostly because the author’s ability to create multidimensional characters is just absolutely amazing. The interaction she created between the protagonist and the secondary characters is superbly executed. She is part of the…
