We Should All Be Feminists

We Should All Be FeministsWe Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m slowly beginning to realize that my research for my graduate thesis is taking me in a direction I had no idea it could take me; the direction of feminist theory.

I had hoped I could address my topic without venturing into this territory, not because I don’t like the subject, on the contrary, it is because I am afraid I will lose myself in it. In and of itself this isn’t bad, but when you have already told your supervisor the topic of your thesis and then drop that kind of change on him, I wonder how far his patience would stretch.

But I digress. I don’t remember requesting this digital title through my local library, so what appeared to have been out of the blue I received an email from them, informing me that the title was available for download.

I read it while I was soaking in the tub. Once I had finished it occurred to me that I already had a digital copy of Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions on my phone and I began reading it straight away.

I admire Adichie’s honest writing style, the questions she rises and the perspectives she offers that do not place any blame, instead trying to point the way in the direction of positive change.

Overall, this essay was highly interesting and manifested Adichie’s skill as a writer and I’m definitely going to read her other works. I would recommend this short read to everyone.
