    Book Love

Book Love by Debbie Tung My rating: 5 of 5 stars Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARC of Book Love in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist The time stamp on my NetGalley profile says I downloaded this book in November of 2018 and schoolwork promptly buried me in 6 feet of assignments and projects. I had to put all recreational activities on hold while I dealt with a rather nasty professor, who demanded his students always be at least one week ahead with their course work. Sure, why not! Anyway, I was really excited to read…

    Cursed Pirate Girl, Vol. 1

Cursed Pirate Girl Volume 1 by Jeremy A. Bastian My rating: 5 of 5 stars I got the first volume of Cursed Pirate Girl as a Christmas gift and I finally took the time to read it. I snuggled up on the couch, ready to dive into this adventure story about a pirate girl and before I knew it, I had finished the book. It was a great read that grabbed hold of me and didn’t let go even after I had finished. I want to know more. I want to read more. Unfortunately, under our current circumstances with comic bookstores and libraries temporarily shut down, I have to ignore…

    Der Kolumbusfalter und andere Abenteuer

Der Kolumbusfalter und andere Abenteuer by Walt Disney Company My rating: 1 of 5 stars As with most people during these very uncertain and even scary times, I’m stuck at home and trying desperately to find ways to fight off boredom. I was lucky when I found a digital version of the first 20 editions of Lustiges Taschenbuch. The publisher began publishing them way before I was born and when I was introduced to them (at an early age), there were about 30 years worth of editions I had missed. So, here I was, sitting comfortably on my couch, ready to embark on this historic journey. And…I don’t think I will…

    Hell School, Tome 1: Rituels

Hell school, Tome 1 : Rituels by Dugomier My rating: 5 of 5 stars I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I really liked this comic. The artwork reminded me a bit of the style used in The Adventures of Tintin. I saw it listed on NetGalley and I just had to read it. At first, I thought this was a story involving perhaps zombies or some sort of monster, but I liked the direction it ultimately took. The story just hit the spot perfectly: we got some creepy school with a whole bunch of weird traditions located on an…

    50 Jahre Onkel Dagobert

50 Jahre Onkel Dagobert by Walt Disney Company My rating: 2 of 5 stars This is another volume I found among my mother’s old collection and decided to take home with me. Considering its shiny gold cover and the title stating a celebration of 50 years of Uncle Scrooge comics, I should have remember reading this one a lot when I was younger, but I didn’t. There weren’t many stories in this one, only 7 all together. Two of those were Mickey Mouse stories, but luckily, one of them was only a few pages long. For volume #233 of this series, I said that most of the comics lacked depth.…

Duck Avenger New Adventures, Book 2

Duck Avenger New Adventures, Book 2 by Rodolfo Cimino My rating: 5 of 5 stars I don’t know how it is possible, but this volume was even better than the first, and the first was pretty darn perfect. The adventure takes Duck Avenger to new places and he faces some interesting enemies. The story continues, while introducing new side stories, that still all tie in together to the main plot. Lots of intrigue, lots of high-tech gadgets with a side of Donald’s signature hint of sarcasm. I was able to get a digital edition on Amazon on sale. I’m wondering, book 3 is also on sale, I mean who needs…

Duck Avenger New Adventures, Book 1

Duck Avenger New Adventures, Book 1 by Alessandro Sisti My rating: 5 of 5 stars I have been reading the German version of Duck Avenger, Phantomias, for a few years now and was very excited when my husband gave me this first book of the Duck Avenger’s newest stories in English for Christmas. The art style is very modern compared to the older, almost classic, German Phantomias comics I am used to. The frames of each scene sometimes overlap, are not perfectly organized to fit only up to 6 frames per page, and therefore create a whole new reading experience that brings the story and the action much closer to…

Zeit ist Geld (Lustiges Taschenbuch, #233)

Zeit ist Geld by Walt Disney Company My rating: 3 of 5 stars I went through my mom’s old comics during my latest visit to her and decided to take some of the volumes back home with me. Among them was this one, which I had overlooked during previous perusals through her comic collection. I remember reading it on many occasions when I was little. It is a fast read and I noticed something peculiar about the way these stories were constructed. The individual stories seemed short. They were of regular page length, but the amount of plot detail and world building were kept to a minimum. There wasn’t much…

Biss zum Morgen (Lustiges Taschenbuch, #473)

Biss zum Morgen by Walt Disney Company My rating: 1 of 5 stars I am very partial to good, spooky stories. I love reading them all snuggled up and having a good little scare. So, naturally, I was excited when I came across this edition of Lustiges Taschenbuch; the title and cover art looked so promising. I don’t think I have experienced a greater case of false advertisement than with this comic book. I admit, the first story, Biss zum Morgen, was somewhat spooky and included elements of the horror genre I have seen in previous Disney comics, but the rest of the stories just fell flat, really flat. They…

Lustiges Taschenbuch Ultimate Phantomias 15: Die Chronik eines Superhelden

Lustiges Taschenbuch Ultimate Phantomias 15: Die Chronik eines Superhelden by Walt Disney Company I have been staring at my computer screen for quite some time now, trying to figure out what to write and how to write it. What I would really like to write is this: shame on you Egmont Ehapa Verlag for editing an already published story and promoting it as a first publication…within the span of three volumes, nonetheless! In Ultimate Phantomias 13 the story was published under the title of “Ein Sponsor für Phantomias”; story by Giorgio Pezzin and artwork by Massimo De Vita. In Ultimate Phantomias 15 the story was published under the title of…
