    These Vengeful Hearts

These Vengeful Hearts by Katherine Laurin My rating: 2 of 5 stars Thank you to the publisher, Inkyard Press, for providing me with an ARC of These Vengeful Hearts in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Gist I was obsessed with the Pretty Little Liars TV show for its entire run. High school thriller, with lots of intrigue and conspiracy. Sign me up! I welcomed the possibility of high school being the exact opposite of what it was like for me. So, it’s a sort of nostalgic feeling I get when reading high school thrillers that offer me an alternative option for experiencing the good…

    White Raven

White Raven by J.L. Weil My rating: 1 of 5 stars I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I don’t even know where to start. I have been having a lot of free time on my hands lately and thought I will work myself through the ever-growing list of NetGalley books. I can’t remember why I requested this story in the first place, because reading the synopsis I can’t really find anything that would personally interest me in the story. I’m not trying to be rude; it just didn’t seem like my cup of tea. Before I started reading I…

    The Bone Houses

The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones My rating: 5 of 5 stars It feels like I read this one a lifetime ago. So much has changed since then, but one thing stays the same, my opinion of this book. It was a great read. I am a sucker for horror, tasteful, spine-tingling, goosebumps-on-the-back-of-your-neck horror. And this was just that. I have been mulling over this review for a while, quite simply because I don’t know how to elaborate on the fact that this was just a perfect story. I really have nothing to suggest to make it more interesting or gripping. The characters were well developed, had depth and held…

    Hollow Earth

Hollow Earth by Amy Miles My rating: 3 of 5 stars I received this ARC from Red Coat Publishing and the authors in exchange for an honest review. The story continues and it’s a dire situation for Taryn and friends. I was excited to get this book in my hands and felt a bit subdued after the amazing first book I could barely put down long enough to eat/sleep.This installment was mainly character driven, which is by no means a bad thing. I was just looking forward to more of the action and anticipation and the rawness of the characters’ emotions to have a greater part in this book. The reader gets…

    The Trickster

The Trickster by Amy Miles My rating: 5 of 5 stars I received this ARC from Red Coat Publishing and the author in exchange for an honest review. This was a delightful conclusion to the Trickster series. It was filled with action, lots of gory zombies and nail-biting situations and a little twist or two to keep up the suspense. It was a quick read and kept me hooked until the last page and even caused me to have some very interesting dreams about the Trickster the following night.Overall, I very much enjoyed the entire trilogy and would recommend it to anyone looking for a young adult, paranormal, horror infused trilogy.

    New Moon

New Moon by Stephenie Meyer My rating: 3 of 5 stars To be quite honest, I enjoyed this second installment a lot more than Twilight, maybe because there weren’t too many possibilities for mentioning an unhealthy/abusive relationship. But on the other hand, Bella became more reckless and blinded by something that should have been left in the past.I assume this installment would also be the commencement of the “Team Edward”-“Team Jacob” divide, which is fun to follow, even though I know how it ends. Part of me wants Bella to get some type of retribution for toying with her supposed “best friend” as much as she does. Now we have less sparkling…

    Twilight

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer My rating: 2 of 5 stars Alright, here it goes. I never thought I would voluntarily read Twilight, but I did and I don’t know how I really feel about it. The movies were suggested viewing for my vampire/zombie course; I had watched them years before while recovering from surgery. I found them absolutely hilarious and looking back I assumed it was because of the painkillers I was on. So, about a month ago I decided to give the movies another shot, clear headed and viewing them as someone doing research. They were still quite funny even the second time around and I began to grow…

    Bring Me Their Hearts

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf My rating: 5 of 5 stars I was given this ARC by the publisher in return for an honest review. If I had a print copy of this book, it would go on my permanent bookshelf. It was that good, nay great. A few weeks ago, I saw a Goodreads friend reviewing it, I decided to check it out and subsequently requested it on NetGalley. I was surprised when I was approved within a very short time and excited to start reading it. I’m so happy I had the chance to read it. It was such a rare and spellbinding treat for a reader. All…

Song of Blood & Stone (Earthsinger Chronicles, #1)

Song of Blood & Stone by L. Penelope My rating: 1 of 5 stars How many reviews have I started with “I really wanted to like this story, but…” over the last few years? And here I am again, adding another one to the category. To make matters worse, I started out by liking this book. I tried signing up for the upcoming blog tour, but missed the deadline by mere hours. Nevertheless, I emailed the PR person ensuring them I would post a review on various sites. I was so enthusiastic and optimistic about this story. I will try not to get too caught up in my review, but…

    The Bone Witch

The Bone Witch by Rin ChupecoMy rating: 5 of 5 stars I was given this ARC by NetGalley in return for an honest review.Like a well-crafted chocolate truffle, melting in one’s mouth, some stories are just as beautifully created. The Bone Witch is a wonderful story about magic, betrayal, love and fate. I have to warn any reader, though, this book starts out very slow, which can be a bit of a turn off for most since it takes about 20% for the story to fully begin and capture the reader. The plot is intriguing. As slow as it begins, the plot is mysterious enough to keep me motivated to continue,…
