The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
It feels like I read this one a lifetime ago. So much has changed since then, but one thing stays the same, my opinion of this book.
It was a great read. I am a sucker for horror, tasteful, spine-tingling, goosebumps-on-the-back-of-your-neck horror.
And this was just that.
I have been mulling over this review for a while, quite simply because I don’t know how to elaborate on the fact that this was just a perfect story. I really have nothing to suggest to make it more interesting or gripping.
The characters were well developed, had depth and held my attention throughout the entire story.
The writing was excellent, and I appreciated the focus on a single story. The story was divided into chapters, like most books are, but instead of interspersing the main plot with another subplot, the author decided to maintain focus on one single story arc.
It was the right decision as it held the reader’s attention and created that white-knuckled reading experience I so enjoy.
Keeping the sole focus on the one story arc was not taxing or tiring, it just made sense.
Overall, I wish I could say more about this story, but I’m running the risk of giving parts of it away that would ruin the experience.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a fast, entertaining read that had me tethered until the last page. I would highly recommend it.
